Walberg Supports Funding for Veterans, the National Guard and Reservists
Washington, D.C. – Today, Rep Walberg voted to provide immediate funding for Veterans and our military reserve components. Both pieces of legislation passed with bipartisan support and come after the House passed earlier measures this week to fund the National Institutes of Health, the National Park Service, and the DC government, in addition to four continuing resolutions to keep the government open and a request calling for a combined House and Senate negotiating committee.
Washington, D.C. - Today Rep Walberg voted to provide immediate funding for the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the National Park Service. Both pieces of legislation passed with bipartisan support.
Washington, D.C. - Today Rep Walberg voted in favor of legislation that would provide funding for the National Park Service and the Veterans Affairs Department. However, both pieces of legislation failed by not gathering enough Democrats to reach the two-thirds required for final passage.
Washington, D.C. – Rep Walberg released the following statement following the Senate's refusal to meet with House members:
"We deserve better. Last evening the House passed a plan, which attracted bipartisan support, to keep the government open and protect taxpayers, but this morning the Senate Democrats voted against even meeting with the House to sort out our differences.

As it stands today, our tax code favors big business and special interests; it's confusing for taxpayers and hurts economic growth. A successful education system and local control go hand-in-hand. Likewise, unnecessary interference from the federal government can hurt students' ability to get a great education. If we want to see more students graduating and finding the jobs they need, then we need to get the federal government out of the way, restore local control, empower parents and support effective teachers.
