As a regular commuter across Michigan, I share your frustration with high gas and energy prices. Uncertainty about the high cost of these prices makes it harder for families to live within their budget. It also hurts Michigan's ability to regain its place as a competitive manufacturing state at a time when they are already threatened by additional federal mandates and government regulations.
BLACKMAN TWP., MI – Congressman Tim Walberg's excitement for what small business can do was renewed when he visited SeaLandAire Technologies, a Blackman Township company that designs and creates innovative sensor and surveillance systems.
"In here, you have a very creative environment," Walberg said about SeaLandAire, 1510 Springport Road. "The amazing things they are doing in Jackson, Michigan … it's not in Silicon Valley."
Washington, D.C. – Today Rep Walberg voted in favor of H.R. 2009, the Keep the IRS Off Your Health Care Act, which prevents the IRS from implementing any part of the president's health care law.
The recent pattern of federal government abuse is very troubling, undermines citizens' trust in their government and we, the American people, deserve an explanation from President Barack Obama as to why his administration used its vast powers to commit these misdeeds.
Washington, D.C. – Today Rep Walberg voted in favor of H.R. 367, the Regulations from the Executive in Need of Scrutiny (REINS) Act, to reform our nation's regulatory system. The REINS Act requires any rule or regulation with an economic impact of $100 million or more and identified by the White House's Office of Management and Budget as a ‘major regulation' to come before Congress for an up-or-down vote and signed by the President before taking effect.
Washington, D.C. - Today Rep Walberg voted in favor of H.R. 1582, the Energy Consumers Relief Act, to help protect consumers from rising energy costs by increasing transparency for EPA rules. H.R. 1582 requires that before the EPA finalizes an energy related rule costing more than $1 billion, they provide Congress a detailed report on the cost, benefit, energy price and job impact. The legislation also prohibits the EPA from finalizing a rule that the Secretary of Energy, in consultation other relevant agencies, determines would hurt the economy.
Washington, D.C. – Today Rep Walberg voted in favor of legislation to reduce federal student loan interest rates. Earlier this month the Senate amended and approved House-passed legislation, H.R. 1911, to tie student loan interest rates to the market. The legislation provides certainty for federal student loan programs by implementing a permanent market based interest rate, locks in the interest rate for students at origination for the life of the loan and will be applied retroactively to any loans made since July 1, 2013.
Every day we hear new reports of challenges surrounding the implementation of the president's health care law. More workers and businesses are coming forward to express frustration with the law.
Under the law's employer mandate, businesses are forced to provide government-approved health insurance or pay a penalty. The president's recent decision to delay the mandate for a year only underscores what many citizens, businesses, and members of Congress have been saying for a long time: The law is a train wreck.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Workforce Protections Subcommittee Chairman Tim Walberg (R-MI) and Senior Democratic Member Joe Courtney (D-CT) today introduced the Streamlining Claims Processing for Federal Contractor Employees Act (H.R. 2747), legislation that moves responsibility for wage claims adjustments for federally contracted workers from the Government Accountability Office (GAO) to the Department of Labor. |
