Community Project Submissions
**Please note: The below information is reflective of guidance provided by the Appropriations Committee for FY 24. While we expect the FY25 guidance to largely reflect the guidance below, this webpage and supplemental documents may be updated as additional guidance on FY25 is provided by the House Committee on Appropriations.**
For Fiscal Year 2025, the House Appropriations Committee is considering limited requests for Community Projects.
DEADLINE EXTENDED: COB March 29, 2024
How to formulate your project request:
The deadline to submit project requests to Rep. Walberg’s office is COB March 29, 2024. All the form(s) and all requested documentation should be e-mailed to: MI05TW_Community_Project_Funding_Requests@mail.house.gov.
The Appropriations Committee will give added weight to project requests that already have local, state or private funding and only need the remaining federal funds to fully complete the project or implement the program. The Appropriations Committee has limited funding available for Community Projects.
Stewardship
Projects will follow applicable requirements in the authorized programs that support good stewardship of taxpayer dollars. For example, programs may require a non-federal cost-share and participation in program audits.
Examples of the types of Projects that are funded through the Appropriations Process:
Projects must have a federal nexus. In order to ensure a federal nexus exists for each funded project, the Committee will only fund projects that are tied to a federal authorization law.
Projects that are often funded include water infrastructure, transportation infrastructure, social services, police services or equipment, building a community center, senior center, and other local government projects and programs.
Projects to create or fund memorials, museums, and commemoratives are not eligible. Project funding may not be directed to for-profit recipients.
Members may request funding for State, local, or tribal governmental grantees and certain eligible non-profits, as allowed under federal law and subcommittee guidance.
You can view previous projects submitted by Congressman Walberg here and here.
The list of FY24 submissions can be found here.
Transparency and Good Governance
Only requests made by state or local governmental and eligible nonprofits will be accepted. For transparency, all Community Project funding requests made by Rep. Walberg will be posted on his website by April 10. The information posted will include:
- the proposed recipient,
- the address of the recipient,
- the amount of the request,
- federal nexus statement,
- and an explanation of the request, including purpose, and a justification for why it is an appropriate use of taxpayer funds.
