Community Project Submissions

For Fiscal Year 2027, Congressman Walberg is considering limited requests for Community Projects.  Project requests should have local, state or private funding and only need supplemental federal funds to fully complete the project. Due to limited funding, Congressman Walberg can only submit 20 projects for the fiscal year. Only requests made by state or local governmental and eligible nonprofits will be accepted.  Only projects with a physical location within the Fifth Congressional District of Michigan will be accepted (Monroe, Lenawee, Jackson, Calhoun, Hillsdale, Branch, St. Joseph, Cass, Berrien, Kalamazoo are counties within MI-05).

Things to Keep in Mind

For transparency, the 15 selected Community Projects will be posted on Rep. Walberg’s website. The information posted will include:

  • The proposed recipient,
  • The address of the recipient,
  • The amount of the request,
  • Federal nexus statement,
  • An explanation of the request, including purpose, and a justification for why it is an appropriate use of taxpayer funds

Projects must follow applicable requirements in the authorized programs that support good stewardship of taxpayer dollars. For example, programs may require a non-federal cost-share and participation in program audits.

Projects must have a federal nexus.  In order to ensure a federal nexus exists for each funded project, only projects that are tied to a federal authorization law will be funded. (Template federal nexus statements can be found in the Resource Guide).

Projects that are often funded include water infrastructure, transportation infrastructure, social services, police services or equipment, building a community center, senior center, and other local government projects.

Projects to create or fund memorials, museums, swimming pools, entertainment venues and commemoratives are not eligible. Project funding may not be directed to for-profit recipients.
