The Hill: Bill requires annual agency spending reports

February 12, 2015

Reps. Tim Walberg (R-Mich.) and Jim Cooper (D-Tenn.) introduced a bill on Wednesday that would require federal agencies to publicly report the costs of programs.

Walberg and Cooper said the measure, titled the "Taxpayers Right-To-Know Act," would help make agency spending more transparent.

"I hate when taxpayer money is wasted," Cooper said in a statement. "It's embarrassing that we even need this bill. Congress knows what it should cut. It just needs to do the job."
"It's no secret the federal government is cluttered with wasteful and duplicative programs, and this bipartisan bill will help identify the outdated programs that should be streamlined or eliminated to save taxpayer money," Walberg said.

Sen. James Lankford (R-Okla.) will offer a companion bill in the upper chamber.

Rep. Frank Guinta (R-N.H.) recently introduced a measure requiring every bill to receive a "duplication score" against programs that are already law.
