A House Republican on Tuesday accused the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) of skirting Congress to regulate family farms.
"Time and again, the administration has made end-runs around Congress and the American people to serve its own political interests," Rep. Tim Walberg (R-Mich.) said during a workforce protections subcommittee hearing that he led as chairman.
Since the 1970s, Congress has prohibited OSHA from enforcement actions at farms with 10 or fewer employees.
Washington, D.C. – Today Rep. Walberg voted for H.R. 357, the GI Bill Tuition Fairness Act, to expand education opportunities for veterans. The bill allows veterans to pay the in-state tuition rate at the public school of their choice and extends the amount of time veterans can receive vocational rehabilitation benefits by five years. The legislation passed the House by a vote of 390 to 0.

The Budget
For the first time in several years both houses of Congress have passed a budget and President Obama has signed it. While the budget increased spending now and spread cuts over 10 years, Walberg was happy it got done at all.
"It's a budget, that's the first thing," Walberg said. "It's the responsibility of Congress to pass a budget."

WASHINGTON, D.C. -Today, Subcommittee Chairman on Workforce Protections Tim Walberg (R-MI) sent a letter to Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Assistant Secretary David Michaels requesting an extension for the public comment period on the agency's proposed rule for Respirable Crystalline Silica. Due to an incorrect deadline on regulations.gov, interested stakeholders may be deterred from providing comments on the proposed rule.
