There's always been some import competition for U.S. steel — but what the industry faced in 2014-15 was considered unprecedented.

As Chief Executive Officer for AK Steel Corp. Roger K. Newport explained, suddenly an import ratio that historically hovered just under 20 percent spiked as Chinese steel flooded the market and drew down prices. At its peak in 2015, finished imports took up a record 29 percent of the U.S. steel market.

A year ago, Paul Rohr's family went online to research his service record and death in the Korean War.

Rohr died March 12, 1951, while a prisoner of war in Pyokang, North Korea. When the family was notified in 1951 of the U.S. Army sergeant's capture and subsequent death as a prisoner of war, they never received his military medals.

On Wednesday, that oversight was corrected at the Onsted American Legion Hall.

LUNA PIER - A Vietnam-era veterans pinning ceremony has been announced in conjunction with the Fourth Annual Luna Pier Veterans Day Parade.

The parade steps off at noon Nov. 5 from Water Tower Park, 11309 Harold Dr. The parade route will be from Water Tower Park to Memorial Park at the corner of Harold Drive and Luna Pier Rd.

In a secluded area of the former Ford Motor Co. property at the end of E. Elm Ave. — a spot near the Lake Erie shoreline so remote that few people are allowed access — lies the wetlands landscape known as Ford Marsh.

On Tuesday, about 20 people, including U.S. Rep. Tim Walberg, R-Tipton, took an invitation-only tour of the currently drained marshland to learn about a unique environmental restoration effort launched two years ago. The presentation included its success so far and what could be the next steps.

In recognition of National Manufacturing Day, I recently had the opportunity to speak with students about career and technical education and tour manufacturing facilities in the 7th District, including Lomar Machine and Tool Company in Horton.

U.S. Rep. Tim Walberg, R-Tipton, stopped by the Monroe County Learning Bank on Tuesday to donate fiction and non-fiction books to the program.

The books were obtained as part of the Library of Congress Surplus Book Program.

The surplus books were made available to members of Congress to request and donate to eligible organizations and institutions free of charge.

Jackson, MI—Congressman Tim Walberg (MI-07) today encouraged residents of Michigan's 7th District to participate in the DEA's National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, October 22 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. The service provides an opportunity for citizens to safely and securely dispose of their expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs at an authorized disposal site in their community.

Monroe, Mich.—Congressman Tim Walberg (MI-07) presented a donation of new books and financial literacy resources to the Monroe County Learning Bank on Tuesday. The books were obtained as part of the Library of Congress Surplus Book Program, which makes surplus books available for Members of Congress to request and donate to eligible organizations and educational institutions free of charge.
