JACKSON, MI (WLNS) – It's been decades since the end of the Vietnam War, but today, people gathered at the Jackson County Fair to pay tribute to those who served then.

Today was a day of gratitude for Jackson-area Vietnam War vets. For many, including 67-year-old Bob Wilkinson who served in the Navy, it took him back to a much different time.

JACKSON, MI – Instead of being honored for their service, people welcomed Vietnam War veterans home after the war by spitting at them and calling them "baby killers," said Bob Wilkinson, president of Jackson's Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter No.109.

More than 40 years after the end of that war, many Veterans veterans received that "thank you" Thursday morning at the Jackson County Fair.

In addition to the display of the Michigan Vietnam Veteran Traveling Memorial, the veterans were presented a pin by U.S. Rep. Tim Walberg, R-7th District.
