JACKSON, MI – U.S. Rep. Tim Walberg, R-Tipton, will host a job fair in Jackson that will feature more than 30 employers from Jackson and surrounding counties.

The job fair will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, at the Commonwealth Commerce Center, 209 E. Washington Ave.

The following companies and institutions have confirmed they will be in attendance to talk with job seekers about available job opportunities and accept resumes:

JACKSON, MI — After numerous community complaints, the flag outside the U.S. Post Office in downtown Jackson was replaced Tuesday, April 8.

The condition of the old flag had been criticized as an obvious violation of the U.S. Flag Act, a law that carries no penalties for violating it.

A U.S. House committee voted to hold former Internal Revenue Service official Lois Lerner in contempt of Congress for refusing to testify about her role in scrutinizing Tea Party groups seeking tax exemptions.

The vote today by the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform was 21-12, along party lines.

"We represent the people and they deserve an answer," said Representative Tim Walberg, a Michigan Republican.

Washington, D.C. – Today Rep. Walberg voted in favor of the fiscal year 2015 Budget to bring balance to our federal budget in 10 years, reduce spending by $5.1 trillion, foster a healthy economy and create jobs. The House passed the Budget by a vote of 219 - 205 and marks the fourth consecutive year House Republicans have passed a responsible budget. In contrast, the Senate has chosen to not produce a budget this year, having only offered one budget in the last five years.

Washington, D.C. – Today the House passed H.R. 2575, the Save American Workers (SAW) Act, legislation introduced by Representatives Todd Young (IN), Tim Walberg (MI), Pete Olson (TX) and Mike Kelly (PA) to repeal the 30-hour definition of "full-time employment" under the Affordable Care Act and replace it with the traditional 40-hour definition. The legislation passed with bipartisan support by a vote of 249 to 179.

A 2013 Blissfield High School graduate will realize a lifelong dream this summer when he enters the United States Military Academy at West Point.

Grayson Strouse, 18, received his congressional nomination for the academy from Rep. Tim Walberg during a town hall meeting earlier in the month in Blissfield. U.S. Sen. Carl Levin also nominated Strouse.

Strouse will report to West Point on July 2 to begin his four-year career at the academy, where he will study engineering and political science. Strouse expects to graduate in 2018 as a second lieutenant.

A functional job training system is critical to helping connect employers with people in our community who are looking for work. Unfortunately, the existing system is broken. According to a February report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, about 11 million Americans are currently looking for work, while millions of jobs available right now go unfulfilled because of the skill gaps.

Washington, D.C. – Today Rep. Walberg voted in favor of H.R. 4138, the ENFORCE the Law Act, to rein in executive overreach by putting a procedure in place permitting the House, or the Senate, to authorize a lawsuit against the Executive Branch for failure to faithfully execute the laws.

A higher education degree is increasingly critical to attaining financial stability and career success later in life. Gone are the days when just a high school degree could easily lead to a well-paying job and a comfortable middle class life. While Michigan's great paying careers now require additional training at universities, colleges, and other technical educational facilities, the high cost of obtaining that degree is often a barrier.

Washington, D.C. – Today Rep. Walberg voted in favor of H.R. 4118, the SIMPLE Fairness Act, to eliminate the individual mandate penalty tax for a year under the President's health care law. H.R. 4118 passed with bipartisan support by a vote of 250-160.
