Walberg: Veterans Need to Come First

July 29, 2015
Washington, D.C. – Congressman Tim Walberg (MI-07) voted today for the VA Accountability Act of 2015, which gives the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) secretary increased authority to hold poor performing officials accountable, provides improved whistleblower protections, and reforms performance measures for senior executives. Last year, the House passed the Veterans Access, Choice, and Accountability Act of 2014 after reports of the sickening mistreatment of veterans came to light.

"Despite last year's scandal, far too many veterans are still faced with navigating an outdated bureaucracy beset with lengthy wait times and inadequate care. The officials protecting failure and standing in the way of reform need to be held accountable. Our veterans sacrificed so much for the freedoms we enjoy today, and their care needs to be the VA's top priority—not defending business as usual," said Walberg.

Congressman Walberg serves on the House Education and the Workforce Committee as Chair of the Workforce Protections Subcommittee. In addition, he serves on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee. For more information on Walberg's work in Congress visit walberg.house.gov.
