Washington, D.C. – Congressman Tim Walberg (MI-07) released the following statement in response to President Obama's veto of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which provides vital funding and authorities for America's military. The NDAA overwhelmingly passed Congress with large bipartisan majorities—in the House by a 270-156 margin and the Senate by a 70-27 margin.

QUINCY — Village of Quincy residents had an opportunity to talk with Rep. Tim Walberg (R) Monday morning at the village hall for coffee hour. He opened the hour with with discussion on Benghazi, the debt ceiling issue, and the signing of a spending plan that has "enabled us to reduce the deficit."

He also talked about communities working to grow the economy, and not Washington.

"Grow the economy, pay down the debt." Walberg said.

He also spoke of a limited government, and free people.

"Limited government has always worked," Walberg explained.

So far this year, I've held more than 30 coffee hours and town halls in every corner of the district.

Some of the areas of concern vary depending on the latest headlines, but there's one issue that I consistently hear about everywhere I go: jobs.

It's no secret why jobs and the economy are on the forefront of people's minds.

LANSING, Mich. — Reforms aimed at increasing police reporting and the burden of proof in civil court for individuals who have property seized by police are now headed to Governor Snyder's desk for his signature.

The package of reform bills introduced by the House in April were unanimously approved Wednesday by lawmakers in the Senate.

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Tim Walberg (MI-07) voted today for the Justice for Victims of Iranian Terrorism Act, which prohibits President Obama from providing sanctions relief to Iran until he has certified to Congress that Iran has paid court-ordered damages it owes to victims of its terrorism. According to the Congressional Research Service, Iran has accumulated a debt of $43.5 billion in unpaid damages for attacks carried out by its terrorist proxies, including the 1983 bombing of the U.S. Marine Barracks in Beirut and 1996 bombing of the Khobar Towers in Saudi Arabia.

LANSING, MI — Attorney General Bill Schuette, Michigan's top law enforcement officer, is backing legislation that would begin to reform the state's civil asset forfeiture laws, which allow police to seize property linked to a crime even if charges are never filed.

House-approved bills awaiting action in the Michigan Senate would not eliminate civil asset forfeiture entirely, but they would require more transparency by law enforcement agencies and increase the burden of proof required to keep seized property.

Filing for veterans benefits can be a nightmare for anyone not used to all the red tape, but some local vets can get free help with the process on Monday.

Congressman Tim Walberg is hosting a veterans claims fair in Jackson.

VA representatives will be there to help with things like pensions, health care, e-benefits, and existing claims. Vets will need to bring their DD-214.

The fair is happening from 9AM-3PM at the Jackson Count Veterans Affairs Office on Lansing Avenue in Jackson on Monday.
