Walberg Stands with 9/11 Families, Votes to Override President’s Veto

September 28, 2016

Washington, D.C.—Congressman Tim Walberg (MI-07) voted today to successfully override President Obama's veto of the Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism Act (JASTA), bipartisan legislation to allow the victims and families of terrorist attacks on U.S. soil to sue foreign states that aided and abetted acts of terror. The veto override passed the House by a 348-77 vote and the Senate by a 97-1 vote.

"The families of the victims of September 11, 2001 have suffered an unthinkable loss and their pursuit of justice has been tireless. These families deserve every opportunity to seek recourse in our courts of law against those who were behind the deadliest terror attack in our nation's history. The President's veto was deeply disappointing, but thanks to today's bipartisan action, we stood on the side of justice for victims and accountability for those who aid and abet terrorism," said Walberg.

Congressman Walberg serves on the House Education and the Workforce Committee as Chair of the Workforce Protections Subcommittee. In addition, he serves on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee. For more information on Walberg's work in Congress visit walberg.house.gov.
