JACKSON, MI—U.S. Rep. Tim Walberg is making strides in naming Jackson's U.S. Post Office after officer James Bonneau, who was shot and killed on duty in 2010.

This is the congressman's second attempt at renaming the post office after the former city of Jackson police officer. On Thursday, May 22, a resolution passed the Oversight and Government Reform Committee and the bill now is headed for the House floor.

Nowadays Marissa Strock needs a helping hand to get up and down steps. The last road on which army specialist Strock walked with her own two feet was in southern Baghdad.

On thanksgiving 2005 her world changed forever.

Rep. Tim Walberg (R-Mich.) has introduced a bill to give Medal of Honor recipients the highest priority among veterans seeking access to Veterans Affairs healthcare.

Walberg said that veterans who have received the nation's highest medal for valor in combat should be guaranteed timely access to their health benefits.

More area residents are getting access to quality health through local clinics, but who will provide that care in the future is a dark cloud looming on the horizon. That's the message Congressman Tim Walberg heard from physicians at the University of Michigan Family Practice Clinic at the Chelsea Health Center Monday morning (May 19). Times are good now for the clinic which has seen more patients through Medicaid expansion, but a lack of residencies in Michigan has some administrators concerned about tomorrow.

On April 18, President Obama once again delayed the approval of the Keystone XL pipeline – an astonishing decision considering public support for this project is at an all-time high. According to a recent Rasmussen poll, more than 60-percent of Americans are in favor of the pipeline, and that figure continues to climb. Americans support Keystone because it would create tens of thousands of jobs nationwide as well as help reduce our dependency on foreign oil, lowering energy costs in our cars and at home.

Washington, D.C. Rep. Walberg has introduced bipartisan legislation to ensure living Medal of Honor recipients receive timely access to their health benefits. The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) uses a priority scale to determine eligibility for health care services, and H.R.4720, the Medal of Honor Priority Care Act, would place Medal of Honor recipients in the highest priority group.

Washington, D.C. - Today, Rep. Walberg voted in support of H.R. 4435, the 2015 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which provides the funding, authorities and pay for the Armed Forces. H.R. 4435 included two bipartisan amendments offered by Rep. Walberg that would assist small businesses and reduce wasteful spending, as well as an amendment based on H.R. 3493, legislation Rep. Walberg has introduced to assist new veterans as they transition back into civilian life.

Washington, D.C. - Today, Rep. Walberg voted in favor of H.R. 4031, the Department of Veterans Affairs Management Accountability Act, to provide the Secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs with the power to remove Senior Executive Service (SES) employees of the Department of Veterans Affairs for poor performance. The bill passed with a bipartisan vote of 390 to 30. H.R. 4031 comes in response to numerous reports of VA senior executives presiding over preventable deaths, patient safety incidents and backlog increases.

The five bipartisan bills passed by the House will grant additional protections, support and assistance to victims of trafficking, while bringing us closer to ending domestic and international trafficking.

Washington, D.C. – Today, Rep. Walberg voted in favor of the Conference Report to H.R.3080, the Water Resources Reform and Development Act (WWRDA), to authorize ports and waterway infrastructure projects. The Conference Report passed the House by a bipartisan vote of 412-4.

H.R. 3080 initially passed the House in October 2013 with Rep Walberg's support by a vote of 417 to 3. Both the House and Senate must approve the Conference Report in order for the President to sign it into law.
