Walberg Votes To Hold VA Officials Accountable

May 21, 2014

Washington, D.C. - Today, Rep. Walberg voted in favor of H.R. 4031, the Department of Veterans Affairs Management Accountability Act, to provide the Secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs with the power to remove Senior Executive Service (SES) employees of the Department of Veterans Affairs for poor performance. The bill passed with a bipartisan vote of 390 to 30. H.R. 4031 comes in response to numerous reports of VA senior executives presiding over preventable deaths, patient safety incidents and backlog increases.

"This much needed legislation will force the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to hold his own employee's responsible by giving him the authority to make needed personnel decisions. After these latest stories of veterans dying while waiting for their appointments, it is clear we must demand more accountability from VA officials," said Rep. Walberg following the vote.
