Washington, D.C. – Today, Rep. Walberg voted in favor of H.R. 803, the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), a bipartisan, bicameral agreement to reform the nation's workforce development system and help workers gain the education and skills they need for today's economy. WIOA is a compromise with the Senate based on the House-passed Supporting Knowledge and Lifelong Skills (SKILLS) Act passed in March 2013. WIOA passed by a vote of 415-6 and now heads to the President for his signature.

Nearly 2 million students graduated from college or a university last year yet, in spite of reaching a major milestone, many of these college graduates are struggling to find work that reflects their skill set. In the latest jobs report, the unemployment rate for 20- to 24-year-olds totaled 11.9 percent — almost double the national average. Young people are tired of worrying about the economy as they realize that the best solution to their economic troubles is a good-paying job.

Washington, D.C. – Today, Rep. Walberg voted in favor of H.R. 4899, the Lowering Gasoline Prices to Fuel an America That Works Act, to lower prices for consumers by expanding production of America's energy resources. Specifically, H.R. 4899 will require that the Administration move forward with new offshore energy production in areas containing the most oil and natural gas resources, remove government roadblocks and ensure resources from Alaska are developed and are transported quicker and more efficiently.

Washington, D.C. – Today, Rep. Walberg voted in favor of H.R. 3301, the North American Energy Infrastructure Act, a bipartisan effort to increase the flow of North American energy to markets and consumers. The legislation passed by a vote of 238-173.

Each year, millions of men, women and children as young as 12 years old are trafficked around the world and even here in the U.S. Because combatting this issue is so important to me I recently held a human trafficking forum with local officials to discuss what we're doing to end these heinous crimes, and by the sheer number of you who attended can tell it's important to you too. Human trafficking is no longer an issue that happens in foreign countries; it's in our backyard and must be addressed.

This compromise, entitled the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), will give states the tools they need to strengthen these vital programs to help put Americans back to work.

Washington, D.C. – Today, Rep. Walberg voted in favor of H.R. 4457, America's Small Business Tax Relief Act. H.R. 4457 will help small businesses improve their cash flow, lower costs, and grow their companies by making expensing levels outlined in section 179 of the tax code permanent. The bipartisan legislation passed by a vote of 272 – 144.

House Republicans and their business allies renewed their criticism of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, saying the agency is overreaching in enforcing employment discrimination laws.

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce issued a research report Tuesday saying the agency has been using "unreasonable" enforcement tactics, and called on Congress to step up oversight of the agency, which it says too often neglects its duties to employers.

Washington, D.C. - Today, Rep. Walberg voted in favor of H.R. 4810, the Veterans Access to Care Act, to help alleviate the extraordinarily long wait times at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) healthcare system.

H.R. 4810 would allow veterans to utilize non-VA healthcare providers if the enrolled veteran resides more than 40 miles from a VA medical facility, has waited longer than the wait time goals for a medical appointment, or has been notified by VA that an appointment is not available within the wait-time goals.

Memorial Day is a time when we commemorate the ultimate sacrifice made by the men and women who died in military service. As we reflect on the tremendous sacrifices that members of our armed forces and their families make when they serve our country, we must also remember our responsibility to assist those returning from the battlefield. Our warriors have served us and now we have a duty to serve them and ensure their successful transition back to civilian life.
