The House of Representatives today approved the Streamlining Claims Processing for Federal Contractor Employees Act (H.R. 6371), legislation that moves responsibility for wage claims adjustments for workers employed by federal contractors from the Government Accountability Office (GAO) to the Department of Labor. Sponsored by Representative Tim Walberg (R-MI), chairman of the Subcommittee on Workforce Protections, the bill received bipartisan support in a vote of 361 to 3.

In less than a year, this Republican-led House has made significant progress to reverse course.We have passeda budget that cuts more than $38 billion for 2011,the first six spending bills for 2012 that return to pre-bailout, pre-stimulus levels, and the Ryan Budget that will save $5.8 trillion over ten years.”

“Job creation has been my number one priority since I took office, and I had hoped that the President was finally ready to join me in encouraging private sector job creation.
Today, U.S. Representative Tim Walberg voted in favor of H.R. 2681, the Cement Sector Regulatory Relief Act of 2011, which will halt a new, costly, job destroying regulation. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) acknowledges this new regulation will cost $2.2 billion, potentially close 12 plants, raise the price of cement and reduce American cement production by up to 12 percent. Michigan has cement plants in Alpena and Charlevoix.
