Two community health centers in Michigan will get more federal money to ramp up testing for coronavirus. Congressman Tim Walberg made the announcement Friday.

The $300,000 Brownfields Assessment Grant will be used to conduct environmental surveys of 16 sites in Jackson County.

Congressman Walberg announced that local area colleges and universities will receive more than $22 million in grants to help students who have been impacted by the Coronavirus pandemic.

"We need to do everything possible to draw attention to the injustice that is taking place with one of our citizens in a Russian jail right now," Walberg said.

The CARES Act includes a number of important provisions to help workers, small businesses, and health care professionals.

Frustrated with progress in their attempts to get the Detroit field office of U.S. Customs and Border Protection to treat Michigan ports the same way other Great Lakes and ocean ports are treated, U.S. Sen. Gary Peters and Rep. Tim Walberg have called on the federal Government Accounting Office to study inconsistencies in cargo screening standards.
