I recently participated in a Natural Resources Subcommittee on Water, Wildlife, and Fisheries hearing and asked Acting Deputy Director of Operations David Miko about how the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service plans to carry out President Trump’s recent directive to prevent the migration of invasive carp into the Great Lakes. The President signed a memorandum supporting the construction of the Brandon Road project, a joint project between the states of Michigan and Illinois and the federal government that would prevent invasive carp from migrating from the Mississippi River into Michigan. We must protect the Great Lakes from threats like invasive carp, which threaten recreational opportunities and our economy.
On Tuesday, I joined Rep. Rick Allen (R-GA) in sending a letter to employers, employees, labor‑management experts, worker advocates, scholars, compliance professionals, and other interested stakeholders for feedback on ways to improve the Labor‑Management Reporting and Disclosure Act (LMRDA) so rank-and-file members have more say in their unions. Recent misconduct cases, ranging from embezzlement to unauthorized political expenditures, underscore the need for a modernized framework that prioritizes the rights of individual members to hold union leadership accountable and that provides individual union members with more control over how labor organizations operate.

Addressing Foreign Influence in Higher Ed
I partnered with Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) Chairman John Moolenaar (R-MI) and House Republican Leadership Chairwoman Elise Stefanik (R-NY) to send a letter to Harvard University demanding transparency and accountability regarding the university's partnerships with foreign adversaries and entities implicated in human rights abuses. Harvard-trained members of a sanctioned Chinese paramilitary group responsible for genocide, and its researchers partnered with Chinese military universities on DoD-funded research and worked with researchers funded by the Iranian regime. These incidents represent a disturbing pattern that puts U.S. national security at risk. You may read the full letter here.
I had the opportunity to visit Buck and Knobby Equipment and meet with their skilled team of professionals. We were able to discuss the importance of providing students with the technical skills in demand in today's modern economy and strengthening workforce development opportunities. Small and family-owned businesses significantly contribute to Michigan's economy, and we must bridge the current gap to connect employers like Buck and Knobby with skilled individuals.
