Walberg Votes to Strengthen Visa Waiver Program, Protect National Security

December 8, 2015
Washington, D.C. – Congressman Tim Walberg (MI-07) voted today for the Visa Waiver Program Improvement and Terrorist Travel Prevention Act, bipartisan legislation to help prevent foreign terrorists from entering the United States. The bill, which passed by an overwhelming 407-19 margin, addresses security shortcomings within the Visa Waiver Program, increases intelligence sharing between participating countries, and prohibits individuals who have traveled to terrorist hotspots in the last five years from using this expedited travel program.

"It is common sense to prioritize the safety of the American people and increase our defenses against the threat of terrorism. The Visa Waiver Program is another area where vulnerabilities need to be strengthened. By putting tougher security measures in place to address the program's weaknesses, we can better understand who is entering our country and can keep foreign terrorists from reaching our homeland," said Walberg.

Congressman Walberg serves on the House Education and the Workforce Committee as Chair of the Workforce Protections Subcommittee. In addition, he serves on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee. For more information on Walberg's work in Congress visit walberg.house.gov.
