Walberg Votes to Repeal Unnecessary Education Regulations

January 25, 2013

Today, Congressman Tim Walberg voted in favor of a bill to repeal two burdensome regulations on colleges and universities. H.R. 2117, the Protecting Academic Freedom in Higher Education Act, was overwhelmingly passed by the House Committee on Education and the Workforce.

“As the representative of several distinguished colleges and universities, I believe it is imperative that institutions of higher learning are able to prepare tomorrow’s workforce as they see fit without unnecessary federal government overreach. The federal government should not ascertain undue control over religious-affiliated colleges and universities, and the federal government should not impose one-size-fits-all definitions on courses of study for colleges and universities who are innovating for tomorrow’s workforce. My vote today removes burdensome regulations on higher education while protecting college access for many young people,” stated Congressman Walberg.

The two regulations that would be repealed are the credit hour and state authorization regulations. The regulations are scheduled to go into effect on July 1.
