Walberg Votes to Protect Taxpayers, Small Businesses to Begin New Congress

January 9, 2023

Washington, D.C. -- Congressman Tim Walberg (MI-05) today voted for H.R. 23, the Family and Small Business Taxpayer Protection Act, the first piece of legislation passed by the new Republican majority in the U.S. House of Representatives. This bill rescinds tens of billions of dollars in funding made available to hire 87,000 new IRS agents to increase financial audits on families and small businesses.

“Today’s vote represents a new House majority willing to stand up for freedom and the American taxpayer,” said Walberg. “When President Biden prioritized empowering the IRS to squeeze private citizens to help pay for his massive spending bills, my constituents expressed concern and outrage over his intrusive and heavy-handed intentions. With this vote, we are delivering on our promise to block the Biden administration from unleashing an army of IRS agents on those who can least afford it. Throughout this new Congress, I will continue to fight to defend liberties and be the voice of hardworking families across Michigan’s 5th District.”
