Walberg Votes for Funding Low-Income Women and Children Nutrition Assistance & Emergency Disaster Recovery

October 4, 2013

Washington, D.C. - Rep Walberg released the following statement after voting to provide immediate funding for nutrition assistance for low-income women and children and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Both bills passed with bipartisan support and are now before the Senate for further consideration.

"There continues to be bipartisan support in the House for funding many important aspects of the government and it's critical that we continue to take steps toward addressing them. The President and Senate Democrats need to move past partisan politics and work with the House to fund the entire government and provide relief to the American people," said Rep Walberg following the votes.

Background

In addition to already passing four pieces of legislation to fund the entire government, earlier this week the House passed bipartisan bills to reopen parts of the government.

  • Reopen the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and ensure that all patients have access to clinical trials (254 – 171; 25 Democrats);
  • Ensuring that the National Guard and reservists are paid (265-160; 36 Democrats);
  • Fund veterans benefits (259-157; 35 Democrats);
  • Reopen our national parks (252-173; 23 Democrats);
  • Allow the District of Columbia to expend their local funds (passed by voice vote).
