Walberg Votes for Defense Funding
July 25, 2013
Washington, D.C. – Today Rep Walberg voted in favor of H.R. 2397, the Department of Defense Appropriations Act for Fiscal Year 2014 by a bipartisan vote of 315-109. The legislation also included two amendments offered by Rep Walberg. The first amendment, which is budget neutral, increases funding for the Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force-Crisis Response to ensure this important mission can properly respond to threats to our diplomatic posts. Rep Walberg's second amendment cuts $79 million in funding from imprudent Afghanistan infrastructure projects.
"This legislation funds our critical national security needs and provides essential resources to fully equip our men and women in uniform. The bill also makes smart choices to reduce wasteful spending, totaling $5.1 billion less than last year's enacted level, while establishing reforms to promote the well-being of our troops and their families. I'm also glad the House adopted two amendments I offered. The first saves taxpayer dollars from unnecessary Afghanistan infrastructure projects, while the second assists our Marines crisis response capability in events similar to the one that took place in Benghazi last September," Rep Walberg said following the vote.
