Walberg Votes Against Blank Check Debt Limit Increase

January 25, 2013

This evening, Congressman Tim Walberg issued the following statement after his vote against a blank check debt limit increase. By a vote of 318 to 97, the U.S. House of Representatives rejected an increase in the debt limit that included no spending reductions or reforms.

“America is drowning in debt, and we need to significantly reduce spending and make long-term reforms in order to encourage private sector job creation and move toward a balanced budget. Raising the debt limit withoutrestoring financial accountability would be unacceptable, and that is why I voted today against this irresponsible debt limit increase. To generate economic growth and job opportunities, I am working to stop reckless spending, reduce the tax burden, increase American energy production and repeal the government takeover of health care. I cannot comprehend why this Administration wants to push the same dangerous failed strategy that got us into this economic mess as a solution.”
