Walberg Supports Honoring the Families of Fallen Soldiers

October 9, 2013

Washington, D.C. - Today Rep Walberg voted for the Honoring the Families of a Fallen Soldiers Act. The legislation passed with overwhelming bipartisan support by a vote of 425 -0 and is now before the Senate for further consideration. Last week Congress unanimously passed the Pay Our Military Act with the intent that all military pay and allowances would be dispersed during a government shutdown. However, the Department of Defense determined the law did not authorize them to continue death gratuity payments to families.

"We need to honor our commitment to the welfare of the men, women and families of those who serve in our armed forces. In response to concerns raised by the Pentagon, this legislationprovides explicit authority to disburse these much needed payments to families. I remain committed to finding a negotiated solution to fund the entire government and provide relief to the American people," said Rep Walberg following the vote.
