Walberg Supports Finding a Negotiated Path Forward

October 8, 2013

Washington, D.C. - Today Rep Walberg voted for legislation to provide a possible venue for negotiations with Senate Democrats on reopening the government and addressing the debt limit in a fiscally responsible manner. The legislation establishes a 20-member negotiating team made up of House and Senate Republicans and Democrats that would immediately begin negotiations aimed a finding a path forward. The bicameral committee would issue recommendations to the House and Senate on the debt limit, overall levels of discretionary spending for fiscal year 2014, and reforms in mandatory spending programs.

"This is one in a number of steps the House has taken to reopen the government and find a negotiated solution. It's important to remember the House has already passed four pieces of legislation to fund the entire government and a number of bipartisan bills to reopen critical parts of the government. It's time for the Senate Democrats to join us and find a negotiated solution to move this country forward and provide relief to the American people," said Rep Walberg following the vote.
