Walberg: Stopping Iran’s Nuclear Program Will Require a Better Deal

September 11, 2015

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Tim Walberg (MI-07) released the following statement after the House voted in a bipartisan fashion to disapprove of President Obama's nuclear agreement with Iran. Click here to watch Walberg's floor speech in opposition to the deal moments before the vote occurred.

"A strong bipartisan majority of the House sent a message to President Obama today that his bad deal with Iran must not stand. The only historic part of the Iran nuclear deal is the dangerous repercussions that will reverberate for generations to come. The Obama administration gave the Iranians—the leading state sponsor of terrorism—the time and space to build a nuclear weapon, weakened inspections to cover their tracks, and billions in sanctions relief to finance the spread of terrorism. Those are just some of the troubling details we know about, because the President has failed to fulfill his obligation to provide Congress and the American people the text of the secret side deals. Stopping Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon will require a better deal and we must be resolute for the sake of our security."
