Walberg Statement on Averting a Government Shutdown

January 25, 2013

Tonight, Congressman Tim Walberg (R-MI) released the following statement about the budget situation:

“Tonight’s vote was about ensuring funding and pay for our troops and their families. I’m disappointed that the previous Congress failed to do its job and pass a year-long budget. I have, therefore, worked with my colleagues in the House to put in place a fiscally responsible budget for this year. Instead, the Senate and the White House put funding for our troops on the line because of their desire to continue their spending binge. I will not let that happen, so I voted tonight to continue to cut unnecessary spending and support our troops, who have already sacrificed so much. I will not ask them to sacrifice their paychecks as well.

I am now eager to tackle the longer term budget issues in order to carry out the mandate of the American people and cut spending. I look forward to achieving that goal.”
