Walberg Sponsors Plan to Allow Energy Exploration in Alaska
Today,Congressman Tim Walberg became a co-sponsor of legislation, H.R. 49, to lower energy costs and promote more domestic drilling. With energy prices on the rise, many folks in south central Michigan are seeing some of the highest gas prices in over two years.
HR 49, a bill that would allow energy exploration in Alaska’s ANWR region, is one part of Congressman Walberg’s overall support for an “all of the above” energy plan to encourage domestic energy resources, limit our dependence on foreign oil, and lower energy costs.
“In carrying out my duty as the Representative of the 7th District, I spend a lot of time as a commuter on the roads in south-central Michigan. Like many Michiganders,I am very frustrated with the recent spike in gas prices. These high prices are especially difficult on Michigan families and small businesses operating on a budget,” stated Congressman Walberg.
“To lower gas prices, I believe that we must become less dependent on foreign sources of oil from volatile areas such as theMiddle East and Venezuela, and we must produce more energy here at home. That is why I have been unwavering in my support of an “all of the above energy” proposal that allows us to develop our own oil and natural gas reserves here in America while encouraging clean fuel technology. We would be using more American energy right now, but those on the left have repeatedly blocked exploration in ANWR,” concluded Congressman Walberg.
Congressman Walberg is also an original cosponsor of H.R. 909, A Road Map to America’s Energy Future. When enacted, HR 909 would expedite permitting and leasing programs for energy exploration, encourage the development of nuclear energy, and promote alternative and renewable energy technology.
