Walberg Reintroduces Bill to Protect Pipelines and America’s Energy Security

February 24, 2023

Washington, D.C. -- Today, U.S. Representative Tim Walberg (MI-05) reintroduced legislation to prevent executive overreach from shutting down safe and essential pipelines such as Line 5, without Congressional approval. The Protecting International Pipelines for Energy Security (“PIPES”) Act will ensure American energy security by prohibiting sole executive authority from revoking permits pertaining to construction and operation of cross-border energy infrastructure facilities.

“Skyrocketing energy costs have severely jeopardized the financial security of American families and the growth of our economy,” said Rep. Walberg. “Our domestic energy supply has repeatedly been attacked by the Biden administration’s ‘green’ agenda while the needs of American families have been discarded. The President should not have the authority to unilaterally cancel a permit or block critical energy supplies that will harm American families, disrupt transportation needs, and further destabilize foreign policy interests and empower adversaries like Russia.”
