Walberg Recognizes Angel in Adoption Honoree from Jackson
Washington, D.C.—Congressman Tim Walberg (MI-07) today recognized Emily Wilburn from Jackson as the 2018 Angel in Adoption from Michigan's 7th District.
Emily is a special education teacher at Hanover-Horton Schools and the mother of Raya, age 4, and Teddy, age 2. A few years ago, Emily was interested in adoption and attended an adoption orientation meeting. She ended up being moved by the need for foster parents, and knowing she could offer children a loving, safe environment, she applied to be a foster parent. Soon after she was asked to foster Raya, and later on, her biological brother, Teddy. After a time as their foster parent, Emily went on to adopt both children.
“In both her personal and professional life, Emily is a bright light on behalf of children in need,” said Congressman Walberg. “Emily’s story of opening her home through fostering and adoption is a powerful example. By stepping forward, Emily has forever changed and enriched the lives of two wonderful kids.”
Angels in Adoption is a program of the Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute (CCAI) that provides an opportunity for Members of Congress to honor constituents who have enriched the lives of foster children and orphans. Emily was honored at the annual CCAI awards ceremony in Washington, D.C. on September 25 along with other recipients from around the country.
