Walberg Presses TikTok CEO on Data Security, Ties to CCP

Washington, D.C. --  Today, Congressman Tim Walberg (MI-05) grilled TikTok CEO Shou Chew on ties between TikTok and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and data security of American citizens. Click here to watch Walberg's remarks.

“Mr. Chew said that 'trust must be earned through action, not words,' but neither his words nor his actions are enough to earn the American people’s trust,” said Walberg. “Mr. Chew further undermined the credibility of TikTok by failing to provide transparent answers on the relationship between TikTok and the CCP, the CCP’s possible involvement in a forced divestiture, and data security of American citizens. If action earns trust, spying on American journalists and repeated attempts to cover up nefarious actions reveal an urgent need for Congress to take greater action to protect Americans.”
