Walberg: Pelosi’s Bill Fails to Hold China Accountable

February 4, 2022

Washington, D.C.—Congressman Tim Walberg (MI-07) released the following statement after voting against H.R. 4521, better known as the America Concedes to China Act.

"Today was a missed opportunity to address mounting supply chain issues and hold the Chinese Communist Party to account for human rights abuses and its role in the global pandemic. Instead, Speaker Pelosi chose to advance another reckless spending bill with a $325 billion price tag," said Walberg. "This partisan bill weakens our economic competitiveness, hurts American workers, and funnels taxpayer dollars to wasteful projects like a U.N. climate slush fund. In addition, Democrats rejected many commonsense amendments, including one I authored to protect cross-border pipelines and strengthen our nation's energy security. America needs to take the China threat seriously, but this unserious bill badly misses the mark. It concedes ground to China, giving them the upper hand. We simply cannot afford to let that happen."
