Walberg, Michigan Republican Delegation Send Letter to Michigan Senators Urging Them to End Shutdown

October 8, 2025

Today, Congressman Tim Walberg (MI-05) joined his fellow members of the Michigan Republican Delegation in sending a letter on day eight of the federal government shutdown to Michigan Senators Gary Peters (D-MI) and Elissa Slotkin (D-MI) urging them to vote in favor of H.R. 5371, a clean continuing resolution, which would reopen the federal government and provide funding through November 21.

Every Michigan Republican voted in support of H.R. 5371, a nonpartisan extension of the current funding level, which has been routinely adopted in previous years under both the Biden and Trump administrations.

"Our goal in passing this bill was quite simple: keep the government functioning for the American people," the lawmakers wrote. "You both are well aware of the vital services the federal government provides to millions of Americans across our country."

"This shutdown is completely unnecessary and only harms the American people who rely on services provided by the federal government – the very same services you both have voted to support time and time again. Now is the time for you both to show you are responsible representatives of the outstanding citizens of the state of Michigan and do your duty as elected officials," the lawmakers conclude. "You both must put petty politics aside and vote for H.R. 5371, and reopen our government so we all, as representatives of the great state of Michigan, can continue to better the lives of all across our state and our nation."
