Walberg Legislation to Combat the Opioid Crisis Passes the Senate

September 18, 2018

Washington, D.C.—U.S. Representative Tim Walberg (MI-07) applauded the Senate for passing the Opioid Crisis Response Act yesterday, which incorporates provisions he authored. The Senate's bipartisan legislation is a package of over 70 proposals to combat the opioid crisis from every angle, similar to what the House passed in June with H.R. 6, the SUPPORT for Patients and Communities Act. Both pieces of legislation approved by the House and Senate include two bipartisan bills authored by Reps. Walberg and Debbie Dingell, Jessie's Law and the Safe Disposal of Unused Medication Act.

"I commend my colleagues in the Senate for advancing these bipartisan solutions to tackle the opioid crisis," said Walberg. "Too many families and communities in Michigan have been swept up by addiction and are in need of a helping hand. This public health crisis requires a comprehensive response, and I am pleased my bills are part of this bipartisan effort to help save and rebuild lives. I stand ready to get this critical legislation across the finish line and to the President's desk as quickly as possible."
