Walberg Invites Students to Participate in 2017 Congressional App Challenge

August 25, 2017

Jackson, Mich. – Congressman Tim Walberg today invited students in Michigan's 7th District to participate in the 2017 Congressional App Challenge. The nationwide contest is designed to highlight the importance of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) education by encouraging students to create an application for a mobile phone, tablet, or computer.

"STEM education is increasingly important to prepare students for jobs in the 21st century workforce," said Congressman Walberg. "As we enter the new school year, I welcome students to participate in this unique opportunity to have fun learning and enhance their skills for the future. I continue to be impressed by the incredibly talented students in our area, and I look forward to seeing their creativity brought to life in this competition."

The deadline to enter the competition is November 1, 2017, and then a panel of local judges will evaluate the submissions and select a winning app. Submissions will be judged based on the following criteria: Quality of the idea, including creativity and originality; implementation of the idea, including user experience and design; and demonstrated excellence of coding and programming skills. The winner from Michigan's 7th District will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol along with winners from across the country.
