Walberg Introduces Bill to Protect America's Energy Security

February 25, 2025

Washington, D.C.-- Today, Congressman Tim Walberg (MI-05) reintroduced legislation alongside Rep. Tom Tiffany (R-WI) to prevent the shutting down of safe and existing energy pipelines, like Line 5 in Michigan, without congressional approval. The Protecting International Pipelines for Energy Security ("PIPES") Act would prohibit sole executive authority for revoking permits for the construction or operation of cross-border energy infrastructure facilities.

"We have seen previous administrations, like the Biden-Harris administration, attack our domestic energy supply to advance their radical green agenda," said Congressman Walberg. "While the Trump administration has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to bolstering energy reliability and upholding our energy security, we must ensure that future presidents cannot unilaterally cancel a permit and block critical energy supplies that are needed to heat our homes and grow our economy. This legislation will provide certainty to the industry and send a clear message that our energy infrastructure must not be toyed with."

“For years, the Left has waged war on American energy with their radical green schemes, while Republicans fought tooth and nail to protect it,” said Congressman Tiffany. “Energy security is national security, and the PIPES Act ensures that our energy infrastructure is as strong as ever.”

Congressman Walberg serves on the House Committee on Natural Resources and the House Committee on Education and Workforce. For more information on Walberg's work in Congress visit walberg.house.gov.
