Walberg, House Advance Bipartisan School Safety Legislation

Washington, D.C.—Congressman Tim Walberg (MI-07) today voted for H.R. 4909, the Student, Teachers, and Officers Preventing (STOP) School Violence Act, to help strengthen school safety and improve procedures to prevent school violence before it occurs. The bipartisan bill creates an evidence-based grant program to train school officials and local law enforcement on how to properly identify and intervene when signs of violence arise, enhance security infrastructure and reporting systems, and develop school threat assessment and crisis intervention teams. H.R. 4909 passed the House by a 407-10 vote.
"Every student should have the opportunity to further their learning and pursue their dreams in a safe environment," said Congressman Walberg. "This bipartisan bill provides critical resources to equip school personnel and local law enforcement with additional tools and training to identify early warning signs and proactively prevent a threat. Enhancing school safety measures, increasing training and coordination, and empowering local officials on the ground are important steps to keep our kids and communities safe."
