Walberg Hosts Town Hall in Dowagiac

On Monday, Congressman Tim Walberg hosted a town hall in Dowagiac to hear the issues that are top of mind for constituents. During the gathering, he discussed accelerating the deployment of rural broadband and decreasing energy prices. He released the following statement.
“As a resident of a rural community for over 30 years, I understand the frustration in obtaining access to reliable and affordable broadband Internet,” said Rep. Walberg. “Our society works best when our citizens can readily access their news and information of the day, and as a member of the Rural Broadband Caucus and Communications and Technology Subcommittee, I am working to expand broadband deployment to rural areas so that all Americans can compete in our global economy. I will continue to support efforts to reduce barriers to broadband deployment, including cutting red tape, encouraging greater competition among broadband providers, and working with federal agencies to deploy universal service funding to unserved and underserved communities in an effective and responsible manner.
“Furthermore, over the past few years, energy prices have increased due to misguided policies and overregulation,” he continued. “As a result, over a third of American households have had to forgo basic expenses to afford an energy bill in the past year. That is why the House passed H.R. 1, the Lower Energy Costs Act. This legislation, which I cosponsored, would increase the production and export of American energy and reduce the regulatory burdens that make it harder to build American infrastructure and grow our economy.”
Since taking office, Congressman Walberg has hosted hundreds of in-person town hall and coffee hourmeetings to hear from constituents on a wide range of issues.
