Walberg Comments on President's Veto Threat of Cut, Cap, and Balance
Today, the White House issued a ‘veto threat’ for H.R. 2560, the Cut, Cap, and Balance Act. H.R. 2560 would cut spending by billions in Fiscal Year 2012, cap federal spending as a percentage of Gross Domestic Product, and require passage of a Balanced Budget Amendment before raising the nation’s debt limit.
In response to the President’s veto threat, Congressman Tim Walberg released the following statement:
“More unrestrained spending and tax increases will only slow our economy and make our significant fiscal problems worse. For the President to threaten to veto a serious proposal that will put our country back on the path to fiscal responsibility demonstrates his stubborn insistence on continuing reckless spending and debt. If the President wants to continue disregarding the voice of the people then he will veto the Cut, Cap, and Balance bill despite never presenting a plan of his own. The President will do what he chooses to do, and I will do what the people and our nation’s future demand.”
“Unless we want to face even longer term economic difficulties, the President needs to reconsider his position and support this plan that cuts spending and encourages job growth.”
