Walberg, Bipartisan Colleagues Reintroduce the Promoting United States Wireless Leadership Act

Today, Representatives Tim Walberg (R-MI), Tom Kean, Jr. (R-NJ), Debbie Dingell (D-MI), and Yvette Clarke (D-NY) reintroduced the Promoting United States Wireless Leadership Act. The bipartisan legislation will bolster American leadership by bringing key leaders and stakeholders together to create a unified approach in standards-setting for 5G networks and for future generations of wireless communications networks.
“The United States must continue to maintain its global leadership in the advancement of wireless technologies,” said Congressman Walberg. “As foreign adversaries like China seek to assert influence over telecommunications technologies, we must ensure that wireless standards are made with America's economic and security interests in mind. I’m proud to work with Reps. Kean, Dingell, and Clarke on introducing this bipartisan legislation which will establish clear rules of the road for the development of wireless technologies."
“As the global competition for 5G and wireless technology continues, the United States must lead—not follow,” said Congressman Kean. “This bill ensures American-led innovation will win the race against our adversaries in setting the standards that will define the future of wireless communications.”
“The policy choices of today will have lasting effects on the global wireless technology development of tomorrow — especially as we compete against China," said Congresswoman Dingell. "We must take concrete, proactive steps to lower barriers to entry for U.S. companies and promote American competitiveness in this space for each subsequent generation of these innovative technologies. As a Co-Chair of the 5G and Beyond Caucus, I am proud to have reintroduced the bipartisan Promoting United States Wireless Leadership Act to ensure the United States remains at the forefront of innovation.”
"On both sides of the aisle, the urgency of securing American leadership in wireless technology is clear. I am proud to co-lead this bipartisan effort to support America’s most indispensable innovators by removing cumbersome barriers to entry and establishing a unified approach to international standards-setting. The commonsense reforms within this legislation will empower the companies and individuals pushing our nation forward and ensure American competitiveness for years to come, and I look forward to seeing them signed into law," said Congresswoman Yvette D. Clarke.
