Walberg-Backed Save Act Passes House

April 10, 2025

Congressman Tim Walberg (MI-05) released the following statement after the House passage of H.R. 22, the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act.

"Over 80% of American citizens believe in requiring proof of citizenship before registering to vote," said Rep. Walberg. "While only U.S. citizens can vote in federal elections, states continue to find non-citizens on their voter rolls due to inadequate safeguards. The SAVE Act is a common sense solution to ensure that only U.S. citizens vote in our federal elections. By requiring states to verify U.S. citizenship when registering an individual to vote in federal elections and providing states with the tools to remove non-citizens from their voter rolls, we can bolster our election security. I am proud to have supported the passage of the SAVE Act to codify President Trump's recent executive action, prevent non-citizens from abusing our democratic process, and restore trust in our election system.

Congressman Walberg represents Michigan’s 5th Congressional District which includes the counties of Branch, Cass, Hillsdale, Jackson, Lenawee, Monroe, St. Joseph, and parts of Berrien, Calhoun, and Kalamazoo. For more information on Walberg's work in Congress visit walberg.house.gov.
