Walberg-Backed Energy Bill Passes House

February 15, 2024

Washington, D.C. -- Today, Congressman Tim Walberg (R-MI) voted in favor of H.R. 7176, the Unlocking our Domestic LNG Potential Act, which passed the House by a vote of 224-200. In January, the Biden administration announced an indefinite ban on the issuance of export permits for liquefied natural gas (LNG) to non-Free Trade Agreement countries. H.R. 7176 would reverse this ban by lifting all DOE restrictions on the import and export of natural gas.

“By banning LNG exports to other countries, we will force our allies to turn to dirtier energy sources from foreign adversaries like Russia and Iran to meet their growing energy needs,” said Rep. Walberg. “This ban, issued to appease climate activists, will cut global supply and therefore raise prices. Instead of issuing an export ban that jeopardizes America’s energy and economic security, President Biden should pursue policies that will bolster the production of American LNG, which has 41% lower lifecycle emissions than compressed natural gas from Russia. By unleashing American LNG, we can reduce emissions, lower energy costs for families, and strengthen national security.”
