Walberg Applauds Opportunity Zone Designations in Michigan
Washington, D.C.—Congressman Tim Walberg (MI-07) welcomed the designation this week of eligible Opportunity Zones in Michigan, including 15 in Michigan's Seventh Congressional District. Opportunity Zones, a provision included in the recently enacted Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, are a new community development program that encourages economic development and job growth in low-income and rural communities by providing tax incentives for long-term investments.
"The creation of these new Opportunity Zones is a promising tool to help spur greater economic development in communities that need it most," said Congressman Walberg. "By incentivizing new investment in these areas, we can pave the way for more job growth and generate new economic opportunities across our state. The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act is already delivering positive results for Michigan workers and families, and this program is another illustration of how the new tax law will help improve people's lives."
