Walberg Announces Grants Supporting Local Law Enforcement

October 14, 2021

Jackson, MI – Today, Congressman Tim Walberg (MI-07) announced that the Jackson Police Department, Eaton County, and Monroe County will receive grants from The Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program. These grants allow states and units of local government to support a broad range of activities to prevent and control crime based on local needs and conditions.

"Unfortunately, we have witnessed a spike in crime in cities across the country, which highlights the importance of supporting our police officers tasked with public safety," said Walberg. "In Michigan's 7th District, the men and women of law enforcement are dedicated to fulfilling their duty each day, and I am grateful for all the sacrifices they make. This grant funding will provide additional assistance to agencies in Jackson, Eaton, and Monroe Counties, enhancing their efforts to serve and protect our communities."

Through The Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program, Jackson Police Department will receive $47,998, Eaton County will receive $11,840, and Monroe County will receive $11,173. A total of $71,011 will be awarded across Michigan's 7th Congressional District. Grant funds will be used for equipment in Jackson, the Safe Monroe County 2021 program, and enhanced enforcement and education in Eaton County.
