Walberg Announces 2016 Congressional App Challenge for Students
September 9, 2016
Washington, D.C.—Congressman Tim Walberg (MI-07) announced today the 2016 Congressional App Challenge, an app competition for high school students in Michigan's 7th District. This nationwide contest is designed to highlight the importance of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) education by providing an opportunity for a student or a team of students to create an application for a mobile phone, tablet, or computer.
"As the new school year begins in earnest, I invite students and teachers to participate in this app challenge as a fun way to develop and enhance math and science skills. Michigan's 7th District is home to so many talented and creative students, and I look forward to seeing their innovative ideas put into action," said Congressman Walberg.
The deadline to enter the competition is November 2, 2016, and then a panel of local judges will evaluate the submissions and select a winning app. Submissions will be judged based on the following criteria: Quality of the idea, including creativity and originality; implementation of the idea, including user experience and design; and demonstrated excellence of coding and programming skills. The winner from Michigan's 7th District will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol along with winners from across the country.
