Sweeping Veterans Accountability Reforms Now Law of the Land

June 23, 2017

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Tim Walberg (MI-07) today applauded President Trump for signing the Department of Veterans Affairs Accountability and Whistleblower Protection Act (S. 1094) into law. The bipartisan bill provides the Secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) increased flexibility to remove, demote, or suspend VA employees for poor performance or misconduct. It passed the House last week with Congressman Walberg's support by a 368-55 vote.

"The VA has faced culture problems for years, and in too many cases, failed to live up to the standards of high quality care our veterans deserve," said Congressman Walberg. "Reforming the VA begins with ushering in a new era of accountability and rooting out bad actors who overshadow the dedicated employees serving our nation's heroes. These long-overdue reforms will help make a real difference for veterans and their families, and I am delighted that President Trump has signed this bipartisan bill into law."

Congressman Walberg serves on the House Energy and Commerce Committee and the House Education and the Workforce Committee as Chairman of the Subcommittee on Health, Employment, Labor, and Pensions. For more information on Walberg's work in Congress visit walberg.house.gov.
