Rep Walberg Votes To Help Job Creators Address Regulations

January 25, 2013

Rep Tim Walberg voted on two pieces of legislation this week aimed at providing economic regulatory relief.

H.R. 4078, the Red Tape Reduction and Small Business Job Creation Act, freezes costly new regulations until national unemployment drops to six-percent or lower, gives small businesses the ability to intervene before government agencies agree to binding legal settlements that require them to issue more onerous regulation and increases transparency for federal agencies that have been operating beyond the purview of regulatory review.

Earlier in the week Rep Walberg managed the House floor debate that lead to the successful passage of H.R. 4157, Preserving America’s Family Farms Act, which would protect opportunities for young people to work on family farms by prohibiting the Department of Labor from placing restrictions on them based on age.

“If we want to create a smooth path for small businesses to grow and hire, then we must remove the many obstacles in their way. So far this year 41,662 pages of new regulations have been published in the Federal Register, totaling $56.6 billion in costs. If enacted, they would take over 100 million hours to complete. We need to cut the red tape to restore certainty to small businesses, manufactures and farmers so that they can get back to creating more jobs across the nation and in Michigan,” said Rep Walberg following the vote.
