Rep Walberg Votes To Bring More Transparency To Regulatory Process

January 25, 2013

Today Congressman Tim Walberg voted in favor of H.R. 3010, the Regulatory Accountability Act, which will require federal agencies to review the considerations of new regulations before imposing them on small businesses.

Specifically, this measure amends the Administrative Procedure Act of 1946, by requiring an agency to more accurately pinpoint regulations which are necessary to protect workers, and then find the least-costly alternative without jeopardizing public health, safety or welfare.

“This bill brings a 65-year old process up to date, bringing more transparency and accountability to the rule-making process. We need to implement regulations that protect American workers and businesses while eliminating ones that are unnecessarily burdensome and costly. In addition torequiring federal agencies to do a more thorough job of deciding which regulations are necessary, this bill will also save money and create more opportunities to engage the public in the regulatory process,” commented Congressman Tim Walberg following the vote.

H.R. 3010 passed by a 253 to 167 bipartisan vote.
