Rep Walberg Presents Purple Heart To Vietnam Vet

January 25, 2013

Today, Congressman Tim Walberg presented war veteran Kenneth “Allan” Rifenburgh with the Purple Heart medal for injuries he sustained while serving in Vietnam.

“I felt like it was my responsibility as an American to serve. I never hesitated. When I got drafted I just accepted it and figured I’d get involved with Vietnam. It was a good feeling to be doing something”, said Mr Rifenburgh about his service.

Mr. Rifenburgh served as part of the 7th Squandron of the 17th Air Cavalry unit based at Camp Enari, nearly Pleiku, Vietnam. On February 3, 1969 he was injured from a bomb explosion during a combat reconnaissance mission in the jungle.

“Today it’s an honor to present Mr. Rifenburgh with this Purple Heart for his faithful and dedicated service to our nation. Mr. Rifenburgh did not hesitate on what he felt was his duty to his country. Men and women like him are why we enjoy the freedoms that we do in America. For that we thank him today, and say welcome home,” said Congressman Walberg about the ceremony.

The Purple Heart is one of the oldest awards given to members of the U.S. military.
