Rep Walberg Honors Rep Gabrielle Giffords
Rep. Gabrielle Giffords formally resigned from Congress this morning, just over a year after she was shot during a constituent event in Tucson, Arizona. Six people were killed and 13, including Giffords were injured.
“Today I witnessed an incredible ceremony as we honored Rep. Gabby Giffords on her last day in the U.S. House of Representatives. It reminds me, as I represent the 7th District of Michigan, of the amazing people with who I serve, members like Gabby Giffords and Sam Johnson. Congressman Johnson, the longest serving prisoner of war in the Hanoi Hilton, still carries the scars of his torture as Gabby Giffords carries the results of a mad man.
These two members of Congress, as well as others, distinguish themselves with a willingness to serve their country, similar to the men and women of our U.S. military. And I’m proud to associate with people who are willing to give even the Supreme sacrifice for the cause of liberty and democracy and to be members together in the people’s House,” stated Congressman Walberg following the event.
